First and Last Breath

First and Last Breath is an Acrylic painting 48 inch X 60 inch on a cotton canvas. Take a moment and let the scale of this piece really settle. What you're looking at here is atmospheric tension. The piece represents the beginning and ending of journeys.

As you stand at the end of a one journey you look upon the next. Notice the backdrop; it acts as a stage for the play of light that is the next adventure. The way the electric blues and verdant greens pull your eye upward into that celestial rift creates a wonderful sense of a open gateway.

The surf is particularly striking. There’s a tactile, almost flat quality to the incoming water that makes the motion feel immediate, as if the tide is physically advancing toward you as you stand at the end of one journey and the beginning of another. It captures that specific, haunting stillness of a coastline at midnight that intersection of something slightly intimidating yet profoundly peaceful.
